Bausch & Lomb PreserVision® with Lutein is a high potency antioxidant supplement with select vitamins and minerals at levels that are well above those found in ordinary multivitamins and generally cannot be attained through diet alone. Bausch & Lomb PreserVision® with Lutein is based on the PreserVision AREDS formula, with the Vitamin A (beta-carotene) replaced with Lutein. Clinical studies suggest that Lutein plays an essential role in maintaining healthy central vision by protecting against free radical damage and filtering blue light.** Lutein is a carotenoid found in dark leafy green vegetables such as spinach. Lutein is highly concentrated in the macula, the part of the eye responsible for central vision. I take this product to delay incipient macular degeneration at the direction of my ophthalmologist. I have a very thorough ophthalmic exam each year at around this time, and the results of my retinal scan today showed a rather remarkable stasis when compared with each of the previous two years.I have not found a better price on Preservision with Lutein anywhere else but I wish that this item were available for Amazon Subscription delivery. It is my single largest unreimburseable prescription expense, and the low prices on Amazon are very meaningful to me.My doctor also suggests Billberry Concentrated Extract with Lutein, available on Amazon.com under the brand name "Spring Valley". I ordered this supplement expecting nutrients that support Eye health. What I got was something with synthetic Vitamin E, dl-alpha (dl = SYNTHETIC), which has been proven to increase your risk for CANCER. Nowhere in the description did it disclose, SYNTHETIC. Only NATURAL Vitamin E,d-alpha, is good for you, and it does help PREVENT cancer. Synthetic E Reacts poorly with Iron which should also be taken in a natural (Ferrous Fumarate) form. I am not at all pleased.Just remember in Vitamin E that the L in dl stands for lousy.
